Accommodation

An authentic farm hideaway, close enough to get to, yet the perfect place to get away from it all. A humble, rural retreat - enjoy wide-open spaces and fresh air, explore old vine vineyards, swim in the dams and expect the most spectacular sunsets and views.

Farm attractions include cellar tours and tastings (booked in advance - and not during harvest!); hiking; biking trails (own bikes); farm dams to swim & fish (catch & release); and play areas with zip-line, swings. There are animals everywhere and vegetable and herb gardens and fruit trees which you are welcome to harvest from sustainably during your stay.

Winemakers Cottage
A peaceful place with views of the valley to die for. This location is kid friendly and if you have any requests they will accommodate accordingly.

Upon arrival you may be greeted by ducks, geese chickens or all of the above, they are part of your experience everyday, The herb garden is packed with everything you need, you will be supplied with fresh eggs and milk and you may even find rusks readily available on the shelf.

The actual living space is amazing, everything is so vintage! We loved it, even took home ideas for a renovation! This place is quite magical and inspirational. Fire wood is abundantly available for Braai's/BBQs or just to fire up the fire place.

Whether you visiting in summer or winter, you will have you own private pool or hot tub, or do what we did, go in Autumn so that we could have the best of both!

Please do try their farm made ice-cream! Hints of granadilla have me wishing i brought some home! Pizza night is an experience!

Just go, don't over think it, you need the break...
Great cosy stay
Beautifully kitted out and cosy for winter stays with a great indoor fireplace. We had a really relaxing time and enjoyed a memorable family weekend away. The room had everything we needed. Great for Kids too, with all the animals and outdoor play areas. xx
Incredible stay!
We loved our 2 night Stay at Kalmoesfontein, AA Badenhorst. Had a fabulous lunch served from the farm kitchen table. The accommodation was well thought out, tasteful and super comfortable, had everything we needed and the little extras made it special. Loved the dog accompanying us on our walk. Wouldn't hesitate to visit again when in the area.

The Stables

Our converted Stables cottage is secluded behind the cellar. Two shaded outside areas and a private garden makes it great for dining and relaxing.

Enjoy showering in our unique farm style bathrooms and on a full moon, enjoy the moon rise over the mountains from your splash pool!

Kalmoesfontein
We had a very special time at Kalmoesfontein. What an amazing experience of beauty, quality, luxury and creativity. We loved the outdoor bath , and had a warm bath under the stars watching the sun set with snow on the mountains. Wish we could stay longer.
Blissful family escape
We all (kids and dogs included) had an amazing stay. The Stables suited us perfectly with everything well thought out and tastefully appointed. All foods (pizzas, braai pack, and picnic basket) and wines were perfectly delicious. Semma, Charl, Christine, Blessing and all staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We really hope to go back soon!
My favourite Wine Estate in South Africa.
This family run farm "wow's" me with every return visit. The vine yards are pristine yet the farm stead area has been kept in a beautiful rustic manner which makes the experience when wondering around to be delightful. Geese, chickens, pigs, horses, turkeys and rabbits...lovely wild and wonderful veggie gardens with old original pathways wind about the areas. The original buildings have been kept in place but are filled with stylish, high quality yet rustic decor and finishes which hold up the original integrity of farm living in a nostalgic way. The cottages have dreamy beds with plush linen, attention to detail, quality finishings, unique seating areas, pools and hang out spots. I look forward to my visits every time.
Tasteful Tranquility
The accommodation is in a league of its own. Tasteful, rustically elegant, and beautifully equipped. And oh so comfortable. Think fresh farm bread and eggs, slubby linen, down duvets, carefully selected weathered furniture, a herb garden. All on an exquisite farm with walks and wandering ducks. It was more than a stay - it was an experience.

Die Melkkamer

Die Melkkamer (Afrikaans for Milk room) was the farm’s original dairy. A one bedroom cottage with a cosy lounge and small kitchen, situated close to The Old House.

What a special place
We just loved Kalmoesfontein. What a special place! It has a quirky charm and authenticity that you do not often find. We stayed in Melkkamer which is perfect for a couple. Thought the local Simply Bee products were a lovely touch. The locals pizza evening on a Thursday is a must if you are there that evening. I would not even think twice about going back.
Slice of heaven
We absolutely loved our stay at Kalmoesfontein. We stayed in Die Melk Kamer (so charming and comfortable) and friends stayed in The Winemaker's Cottage, where we ate and swam and enjoyed the views. The kids loved the animals, the hot tub (Winemaker's) and the freedom! Adults loved the views, the hot tub, the insanely comfortable beds, the beautiful bathrooms and the thoughtful touches such as homebaked bread, a basket of freshly laid eggs, milk and homemade rusks. Oh and the fireplaces all laid and ready. Really a step above any other farm accommodation we have experienced. We will be back!
Great getaway close to the City
We had a lovely, relaxing time in the Melkkamer and thoroughly enjoyed authentic farm life. We made full use of the amazing property, went for walks, sat by the pool, had a braai and enjoyed pizza night. The wine is exceptional as well. We would highly recommend this as a quick out-of-the-city break.
Magical, Charming, Beautiful -A Very Special Place
We stayed two nights in Die Melkkamer which was perfect for us as a couple. The place was perfectly furnished, thoughtfully equipped with everything you could need, beautifully presented - in keeping with the farm-style - and very clean. We loved the various outside seating areas, particularly the Braai areas, stoep and the pool to cool off. Thank you so, so much to Adi, Cornelia, Semma, Charl and the whole AA Badenhorst Team for the most amazing, memorable stay on your farm. We loved every minute and will definitely be back!!

The Silo

Our converted grain Silo is an open-plan master bedroom with stunning views of the Swartlandscape. The room, with it’s king-size bed is often booked as our honeymoon suite and is the perfect romantic getaway or overnight spot from which to explore the area.

The Silo Kalmoesfontein
Great farm breakaway in the middle of SAS best wine producing area. Special treats in room - freshly baked bread , Caperatif & Tonic , Secateurs Rose! Great views , peace and quiet ! Everything you need provided , including lots of firewood
Vineyard stay in the silo
We loved this accommodation and location! We stayed in the converted silo which was actually quite spacious and furnished with everything you needed. Across the path was a little garden with a converted greenhouse to chill in as well as a refreshing plunge pool and braai area. It had the most fantastic views of the mountains.

We stayed for two nights and didn't actually leave the property the whole time! We did a wine tour and tasting followed by lunch, got a braai pack for the evening, did the 5km hike through the vineyards (after which the plunge pool was very welcome!), wandered round and saw the most enormous pigs, patted the dogs and shooed away the chickens. The pizza was amazing too! And of course you can't go wrong with any of the Badenhorst wines.

Semma, Charl & the team were so friendly and welcoming too. All in all, a fantastic stay and can't wait to return!
Gem of the Swartland
The Swartland is special. All the wineries are local (non-commercial) farmers with a massive passion for wine. This is why some of the world's best wines comes from The Swartland. Adi Badenhorst and his family hosted us on a Thursday night which is also their famous local Wood Fired Pizza Night. You don't want to miss this!

The Koringhuis

The Koringhuis is the oldest and most peaceful dwelling on the farm. This lovingly restored building, dating back to the late 1700’s, is the perfect combination of rustic luxury still retaining its thick stone walls and a few patches showing off generations of paint jobs. The front stoep, with spectacular views of the mountain and the dam, is perfect for outside dining and relaxing. There is a shared kitchen and dining area, while each of the three bedrooms has its own private bathroom and little lounge.

Perfect farm stay
We had a great weekend away at Badenhorst. The cottages are just beautifully designed and the small details like home baked bread and farm butter and eggs are gorgeous. If you like cooking, you'll find everything you need. The beds and linen are of top quality. Each cottage has their own pool and the views are amazing.
